SOUND SIGNAL REQUIREMENTS

All paddlers must be able to produce a sound signal on the water. The easiest way to meet this requirement is to attach a whistle to your life jacket. With a whistle, you’ll be able to signal for help or attract the attention of other boaters.

Your sound signal must be audible from no less than 0.5 nautical miles away. Be sure to check with your state for any sound signal requirements for paddlers, as these laws may vary.
